How are YOU Smart? - Learning Together With Your Children
Cherie L. Spehar, MSW
Discover how the theory of Multiple Intelligences can change your life! This workshop is based on Howard Gardner’s work – work that is changing the way the world thinks about “being smart” and even how we teach. We will discuss how this approach is being received and utilized in the educational setting, and focus heavily on the benefits and positive effects on a child’s growth and development.
A strengths-based approach, this workshop will explore the question of not "Is this person smart?" but "HOW is this person smart?" You will be able to complete your own Multiple Intelligences Inventory, as well as a Learning Styles Assessment. Once you have the personal understanding of how this applies to you, it's time to focus on your children. Bring them in for the last two classes and they will have a chance to complete a modified inventory and learning styles assessment.
Because one of the best ways to transfer this learning to real life is to "do" it, you and your children will then be able to participate in an activity designed to demonstrate to the class how they like to learn best. With preparation and coaching, you and your children will work together at home to create a small presentation to share at the next class. And, you will have FREE phone support, coaching, and guidance from the instructor during this time. Finally, we'll talk about how to enhance, nurture and support their own unique learning styles, helping them reach their highest potential.
